The well fed, smug face of fascism.

Increasingly irritable as the Democrats refuse to totally knuckle under to the white knuckle GOP (who aren't 87% white Christian right wingers like Dean says, they are 85% white Christian right winters!) things heat up in hot DC.
The Republican chairman walked off with the gavel, leaving Democrats shouting into turned-off microphones at a raucous hearing Friday on the Patriot Act.

The House Judiciary Committee hearing, with the two sides accusing each other of being irresponsible and undemocratic, came as President Bush was urging Congress to renew those sections of the post-Sept. 11 counterterrorism law set to expire in September.

Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., chairman of the panel, abruptly gaveled the meeting to an end and walked out, followed by other Republicans. Sensenbrenner declared that much of the testimony, which veered into debate over the detainees at Guantanamo Bay, was irrelevant.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., protested, raising his voice as his microphone went off, came back on, and went off again.

"We are not besmirching the honor of the United States, we are trying to uphold it," he said.
How can you uphold the honor of a nation that is imitating Nazi Germany and the Soviet State? This is difficult, at best. The Repubs scream about the Senate fillibustering Bush's neo con con artists but then when the Democrats want to talk about laws in a legal venue where the entire point is to talk about laws, the GOP wants everyone to shut up or be called a "Universal Advesary".

Well. I hope to god the Democrats figure out we are the "Universal Advesary" of the GOP and get to work! There isn't much time left! The sham hearings were set up to rubber stamp our ruler's desire to make the odious and unconstitutional "Patriot Act" permanent. No witnesses to stop this law were called, only pro-extention people were summoned.

When the Democrats started bringing up witnesses, the neo Nazi running the committee (he is a neo Nazi) took the gavel, shut off the sound system and the entire GOP boycotted in an extra-legislative act that violates the spirit as well as the meaning of "consent of rule by the people." If 50% of us don't qualify as "people" we are in trouble. As if readers of this blog don't already know all too well.
Tempers flared when Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., accused Amnesty International of endangering the lives of Americans in uniform by referring to the prison at Guantanamo Bay as a "gulag." Sensenbrenner didn't allow the Amnesty representative, Chip Pitts, to respond until Nadler raised a "point of decency."
Here we go again. Sigh. Every committee is now a McCarthy HUAAC meeting with the Chair allowing beefed up GOP representatives to brow beat and harrass "witnesses" and interrupting them and in general, intimidating them.

They tried this on Mr. Galloway of Britain to hilarious effect as he, a seasoned politician accustomed to ferocious infighting, tore them limb from limb, leaving them to crawl bloodily away, screaming like minature copies of the Monty Python Black Knight, "I can still fight, I'll bite your kneecaps off."

Bush and the GOP may think the story line, "Our gulag is smaller and newer than Stalin's," is going to float, only it is like an anvil in a wading pool.

Meanwhile, on the far right, there is trouble abrewing. The GOP, courting Hispanics, not only had Bush kow tow to two Popes in Rome but getting him to suggest allowing a flood of immigrants from Mexico, the bugaboo of all far right wingers. The anti-semitism on the right is morphing, too. Even as Bush embraces the idea of making the state of Israel a 51st state (as many GOP and Democratic politians are doing) the far right is rightfully alarmed by Israeli plans:
According to Ephraim Halevy, former chief of Israel's Mossad intelligence service and current national security adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, plans have been made for a substantial U.S. military presence in the Middle East lasting decades.
“The U.S. campaign in Iraq was perceived [in the Middle East and Washington] as a signal of long-term American commitment to do whatever is required and to ‘stay in the neighborhood’ for as long as needed,” commented Halevy in a lengthy op-ed column carried by the April 24 issue of Ha’aretz. High-ranking U.S. policymakers have “raised the idea of establishing an American trusteeship regime in the areas of the Palestinian Authority, if it should turn out that the Palestinians are not ripe for self-rule. That arrangement would require an American operational military presence along Israel’s border with the Palestinian territories.”

“Speaking in a semi-closed forum during a visit to Israel a few months ago,” continued Halevy, “Bill Kristol, one of the most influential ‘neocons’ [neoconservatives] in the United States, noted in this connection that the American presence in Europe after World War II lasted for nearly 60 years. Israelis who are trying to promote a role for NATO in the region, in one form or another, are actually promoting a generation-long American presence.”

U.S. entanglement in the Middle East in the name of “democracy” has further destabilized the region and made violent fundamentalist revolution more likely, especially in Saudi Arabia. “In [an early April] visit to the United States,” comments Halevy, “I was told by several well-informed observers that should one of the more severe scenarios come to pass, the United States will have no choice but to deepen its presence in the Middle East. To that end, it will have to renew the draft, to ensure that there are enough forces to deal with developing situations in countries like Saudi Arabia.”
Unfortunately for us all, this plan to insert the USA into this whole mess is exceedingly dangerous as well as possibly starting WWIII. Making our soldiers the jailers of all Muslim populations is WWIII. Bush nearly had the troops invade Syria when we took over Iraq only the military squelched this quietly by simply refusing to impliment it. The drum beat to invade Iran, invade Syria continues unabated.

The neo cons won't rest and the top priority plan of many Congressmen and women in the GOP is to bring about the Apocalypse which means we have to rein these people in, pronto.

Seems to me that many in the USA are finally waking up to this grave peril. Unfortunately, as any reader of the right wing can see, getting them to join in any coalition to change course is nearly impossible since they are, like the other right wingers, "my way or the highway" mentality. And like the GOP, they hate liberals more than they hate anyone else.

We are the Ultimate Advesary to them all.
