Now that I got my Sunday Sermon out of the way, back to the hard news. And the news is hard, indeed. Here is an email from one of my readers:

Subject: Bush's Potemkin Villages --

As a fan of your blog, thought you'd like to know these two facts about Bush's visits on Friday:

Landrieu is now saying that they faked repairs on the 17th street levee when Bush arrived in town.

From Senator Landrieu:a letter complaining about the cessation of work immediately after Bush left.

German TV is saying that when Bush visited in Biloxi, they faked a cleanup:

rough translation:

Auxiliary troops cleared up the disaster area before the US President visited--but only there. ZDF Television Correspondent Claudia Reuggeberg interviewed desperate people from Biloxi, who said he should be bringing food and water in his limousine, instead of bodyguards and assistants.

Throughout his route, troops cleared debris and corpses before his arrival. Then when Bush left, "so with him," said Rueggenberg, "left all the troops." And for the people in Biloxi, nothing changed; they lack everything.

Here is the picture of the dike right when the Senator flew over:
fJust one pokey, old crane that really isn't able to do anything. I run a backhoe. You can't fix this break with one backhoe dropping one bucket at a time into raging waters. Who is the unfortunate person charged with this literally Sysphian task? Like fairy tales where one has to empty a lake with a sieve! This childish response to real life problems is why America is a Potemkin Nation. We want the gloss and the glory but can't even prop up the props without the help of the entire planet which is, today, gritting their teeth as they try to pet us and make us feel better.

We are sinking the entire planet into chaos because we are making stupid choices and note how we said nothing while hundreds of Chinese and Indians drowned! Hardly a picture, nary a peep! Now we want them to weep for us which they are doing, gleefully.

Think those offers of aid from these countries aren't scorpion stings?

The curse of privatization is at work here in the New Orleans disaster. I got this URL from other posters and readers of this blog, everyone is on the ball! Can't keep up! Have to sleep some time! From last year, a news release from the cannibals:

IEM Team to Develop Catastrophic Hurricane Disaster Plan for New Orleans & Southeast Louisiana

June 3, 2004

IEM, Inc., the Baton Rouge-based emergency management and homeland security consultant, will lead the development of a catastrophic hurricane disaster plan for Southeast Louisiana and the City of New Orleans under a more than half a million dollar contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

In making the announcement today on behalf of teaming partners Dewberry, URS Corporation and James Lee Witt Associates, IEM Director of Homeland Security Wayne Thomas explained that the development of a base catastrophic hurricane disaster plan has urgency due to the recent start of the annual hurricane season which runs through November. National weather experts are predicting an above normal Atlantic hurricane season with six to eight hurricanes, of which three could be categorized as major.

The IEM team will complete a functional exercise on a catastrophic hurricane strike in Southeast Louisiana and use results to develop a response and recovery plan. A catastrophic event is one that can overwhelm State, local and private capabilities so quickly that communities could be devastated without Federal assistance and multi-agency planning and preparedness.

Thomas said that the greater New Orleans area is one of the nation’s most vulnerable locations for hurricane landfall.

“Given this area’s vulnerability, unique geographic location and elevation, and troubled escape routes, a plan that facilitates a rapid and effective hurricane response and recovery is critical,” he said. “The IEM team’s approach to catastrophic planning meets the challenges associated with integrating multi-jurisdictional needs and capabilities into an effective plan for addressing catastrophic hurricane strikes, as well as man-made catastrophic events.”

IEM President and CEO Madhu Beriwal is the recipient of a s pecial merit award from the Louisiana Emergency Preparedness Association ( LEPA ) for her work in New Orleans hurricane emergency preparedness.
This entire company's CEO officers should be arrested and put on trial! Now! They won't be touched, of course, they are politically very connected. They want money. For themselves so they can live in fine houses, party, go overseas, live in a bubble! This document goes on to blather about "multidisciplinary planning" and "co-ordinating with Homeland Security" and I want to discipline them...with my horse whip.

These words are meaningless jumbles churned out by cannibals who have no intention of saving a soul. They want urban renewal which means "get rid of poor people".

More from ZDF news: From War and Peace
If he could go to Baghdad, why didn't Bush go to the New Orleans Superdome or the Convention Center? It was bizarre for all of the country and much of the world to be watching those scenes for days on our TVs and news reports, and for Bush's photo ops to be in areas that were far less critical. I know there are security considerations but his visit seemed extraordinarily hollow even by this administration's standard of ultra-stage managed events.

Dutch viewer Frank Tiggelaar writes:

There was a striking dicrepancy between the CNN International report on the Bush visit to the New Orleans disaster zone, yesterday, and reports of the same event by German TV.

ZDF News reported that the president's visit was a completely staged event. Their crew witnessed how the open air food distribution point Bush visited in front of the cameras was torn down immediately after the president and the herd of 'news people' had left and that others which were allegedly being set up were abandoned at the same time.

The people in the area were once again left to fend for themselves, said ZDF."
I read elsewhere, lost the link, that the National Guard moved on, too. Bush does this all the time. When the press lied about him helping with Habitat for Humanity, an organization endorsed and worked on by a real empath, Jimmy Carter, he had a bleacher built for the press and the entire neighborhood was cleared out and one press person recorded the real events. We got photos of black people being bussed in to pose as "neighbors" and Bush got a new hammer and new gloves. He struck one nail, hit himself on the thumb and quit! He then giggled as he pretended to lift a wall only he didn't really touch it. He was there for 15 minutes and the press claimed he worked all day.

It was all fake. And the press knew it and lied. They lie all the time except during emergencies when the owners lose the dogs who slip the leash. Horrified by reality, the photographers and reporters overwhelm the controls at the editorial desk and reality slips out. On 9/11 this happened but I could see hour by hour as the rulers pulled hard on the leashed and resumed control of the reporters who began to dutifully mouth the Potemkin lies.

This is why our blogs exist. To capture the real news and hold it down, hard, so they can remanufacture reality by erasing everything like they did after 9/11.

From Yahoo, the Deputy Police Commander of New Orleans:

NEW ORLEANS, United States (AFP) - A top New Orleans police officer said that National Guard troops sat around playing cards while people died in the stricken city after Hurricane Katrina.

New Orleans deputy police commander W.S. Riley launched a bitter attack on the federal response to the disaster though he praised the way the evacuation was eventually handled.

His remarks fuelled controversy over the government's handling of events during five days when New Orleans succumbed to lawlessness after Katrina swamped the city's flood defenses.

The National Guard commander, Lieutenant General Steven Blum, said the reservist force was slow to move troops into New Orleans because it did not anticipate the collapse of the city's police force.

But Riley said that for the first three days after Monday's storm, which is believed to have killed several thousand people, the police and fire departments and some volunteers had been alone in trying to rescue people.

"We expected a lot more support from the federal government. We expected the government to respond within 24 hours. The first three days we had no assistance," he told AFP in an interview.

Riley went on: "We have been fired on with automatic weapons. We still have some thugs around. My biggest disappointment is with the federal government and the National Guard.
Already, the rulers are forcing people who blurted out the truth to shut up. I read around the web various politicians and officials apologizing for talking too nastily to Bush. This sickens me. Like on 9/11, everyone is going to be told to wave the flag and salute.

More from the previous article:
The National Guard commander said the city police force was left with only a third of its pre-storm strength.

"The real issue, particularly in New Orleans, is that no one anticipated the disintegration or the erosion of the civilian police force in New Orleans," Blum told reporters in Washington.

"Once that assessment was made ... then the requirement became obvious," he said. "And that's when we started flowing military police into the theatre."
There it is again! The repeat of this lie: NO ONE could have known this would happen.

Excuse me, but tons of people not only knew but predicted exactly this! Like robots, every single man and woman down the line is saying, "NO ONE expected Bin Laden to attack in the USA." Even when the 9/11 Commission saw the horrifying memo, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack in the USA" they still pretended NO ONE KNEW that he was going to attack. So it is here. NO ONE dreamed that Mother Nature would nail New Orleans. And NO ONE had the faintest idea that a handful of cops, exhausted by five days of dealing with the catastrophe of the century, will fall apart or need help! Nope. Not a soul could figure that 1,200 cops couldn't hold down an entire city that was disintigrating!

Well. I have lived through disasters where there were no cops and we had no phones and were screaming for the National Guard! This pisses me off because we had tons of news flowing in showing clearly that 10,000 National Guards were needed at MINIMUM and Bush was still on fucking vacation and the head of FEMA and Homeland Security said nothing.

The police commander was unable to give a death toll for New Orleans.

"We have bodies all over the city. A federal mortuary team was supposed to come in within 24 hours. We haven't seen them. It is inhumane. This is just not America."

Riley said he did not even know how many police remained from a normal force of 1,700.

"Many officers lost their homes or their families and there are many we have not heard from. Some officers could not handle the pressure and left. I don't know if we have 800 or thousands today."
On every front, the system failed. Of course, the police failed, like the dikes, due entirely to the fact they were outnumbered, over worked and overwhelmed. Their failure was unavoidable.

The Federal failure was entirely and totally due to the lack of imagination and leadership and empathy at the top. They didn't care. While thousands died, Condi went shopping, Bush went to a golf resort and Cheney is still on vacation! They just didn't want to be bothered. This information will be ignored, glossed over or lied about during the following months. Bush already is dangling bait in front of the gaping maws of the media owners. This is why, even as the emergency was painfully obvious to everyone, Senator Frist announced on Friday that his number one initiative in Congress this Fall is cutting taxes to the very rich.

Yes, that is what they are planning. The media owners are very very rich. They and their cannibal children would love to get no taxes. Far from asking us to sacrifice ourselves, they will feast on our carcasses. Even as America opens up and gives generously, they plan to shut down their contribution to keeping America solvent and drive us even deeper into debt.

All the misery this week is due to cuts in federal spending on domestic programs. These cuts are not only not going to cease, they will now accelerate! The million refugees need food and housing and jobs and hope. We will be ruthlessly cutting services to them all relentlessly over the next year. They will need help for the next several years, New Orleans won't be habitable for a very long time!--and Bush and the 48% of America that has no empathy will ruthlessly cut resources, resuming the relentless program of eliminating services to Americans and giving tax cuts to the very rich!

News from our enemies:
The group headed by Iraq's most wanted man Abu Musab al-Zarqawi hailed the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina as beginning of the end for the United States.

"It is the start of its collapse," said an Internet statement from the Al-Qaeda Organisation in the Land of Two Rivers, whose authenticity could not be verified.

"Congratulations to the Islamic nation, to our sheikh Osama abu Abdullah ( Osama bin Laden), to our emir Mullah Mohammad Omar, to sheikh Ayman Zawahiri (bin Laden's deputy)... for the destruction of America, which is at the forefront of evil."

The whereabouts of Al-Qaeda chief bin Laden and Mullah Omar, the leader of the ousted Taliban regime in Afghanistan, remain unknown.

"Just yesterday, America attacked, killed and starved whomever it liked. Today, it is begging for oil and food. America has been hit by a divine strike. The curses of the oppressed have been fulfilled," the Zarqawi statement said Sunday.

Thousands are feared dead after the hurricane that has laid waste to the southern US city of New Orleans.

Followers of the Jordanian-born Sunni Muslim extremist have claimed scores of deadly attacks in Iraq and he himself has a 25 million dollar US price on his head.

"There are signs of victory on the horizon. The anger of the Almighty has descended on the tyrants. Their deaths can be measured in the thousands, their material damage in the billions (of dollars)," the statement said.

"If Muslims are powerless to defend their religion, God is on the lookout (to punish) the oppressors."
For some reason, many Americans think, allowing a city to be destroyed and allowing the populace to die, is OK. Well, you don't win wars via this means. We are engaged in a Hearts and Minds war with opponents who hope we go bankrupt. And guess what?

The chances of them winning is quite high!

Now for our troops in Iraq: From the NYT:

Capt. Terrence P. Ryan has made a career out of helping Americans dig out from storms up and down the Gulf Coast. But now, with his own house underwater, he is stuck at Camp Victory in Iraq waiting for a flight home.

Captain Ryan and 4,200 other members of the National Guard from Louisiana have finished their yearlong tour of duty. Their replacements, from other states, began arriving last month. But the Louisiana guardsmen are not expecting to fly home for at least another week, maybe two, and the journey itself could take 4 to 10 days.

"It's our turn to help our own, and we're not there," said Captain Ryan, 37.

For some, the wait is excruciating. A handful of guardsmen have not been able to locate their families, and their fellow guardsmen in Louisiana have organized searches to track them down.

Some critics have suggested that the military's use of National Guard troops in Iraq has slowed the relief effort on the Gulf Coast. Military officials in Iraq said they would try to speed the return of the Louisiana guardsmen. About 4,100 guardsmen from Mississippi are not scheduled to return until late fall.
The agony seems unending.
The guardsmen said that they have been relieved to see guardsmen stream into Louisiana and the other stricken states, and that they do not begrudge their work in Iraq.

"Actually our primary mission is federal, here in Iraq, and our secondary is at home," Sergeant Williams said.
Wow. I read that line several times in several places. It seems to be the latest Pentagon orders to officers to mouth. Excuse me, Rumsfeld, I will put this in capital letters for you:

My god! This is insane! How could the sargent say this? Is this what the brain washing has done to him? Has he lost his mind? I know the Pentagon thinks dying Americans are just like dying Iraqis or whoever: nobodies. But dear Jesus, is this what ordinary Americans think? I once read a Texan Senator yelling that preserving Israel is more important than protecting America. I hear this sort of traitorous talk all the time, they blurt it out, sometimes with great pride!

They really think everyone comes before their duties to the American citizens. And this shows! They could barely bother getting out of bed to save an entire fucking city.

Ever been to DC? Want to see an abandoned city? Mile after mile of empty buildings, a few survivors lurking in dark doorways? I have explored this part of DC and it stretches for miles. Because I am a white ruling class woman, I didn't fear to enter the No Man's Land of most of Washington, DC. Other countries marvel at how we let our own capital disinitgrate into chaos, death and destruction. People are shot dead daily in our capital and no one notices or cares. Much of DC looks like Mogadishu only worse, the people are demoralized and scattered.

We don't care about this during good days. We won't care if it is all destroyed so long as the government buildings remain in their bubble.
