Bush Honors 2000 Dead Soldiers By Doing the Funky Chickenhawk Dance
By Elaine Meinel Supkis
It is official now: last Saturday, the 2000th soldier was blown up in Iraq. Bush explained why yet again while the media spun in circles, screaming like Linda Blair, spitting up green goo. Just in time for Halloween.
From Editors and Publishers:
U.S. Army Lt. Col. Steve Boylan, director of the force's combined press center, wrote in an e-mail to reporters, "I ask that when you report on the events, take a moment to think about the effects on the families and those serving in Iraq. The 2,000 service members killed in Iraq supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom is not a milestone. It is an artificial mark on the wall set by individuals or groups with specific agendas and ulterior motives."Why can't hide under his cot Boylan go out on patrol? The new Humvees are still in America so he can show us how it is good and brave to die by being blown up. Set a shining example. I promise, I swear to god, I will not mourn his death nor demonstrate to end the war if he dies.
Boylan, according to AP, added: "The 2,000th Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine that is killed in action is just as important as the first that died and will be just as important as the last to die in this war against terrorism and to ensure freedom for a people who have not known freedom in over two generations."
Of course, the chances of Boylan dying this way is about zero. Ditto Bush. Bush, again, tried to explain why being blown up in a Humvee is great fun and besides, our troops have excellent moral, they want to die, so why remark on 2000 dead and 50,000 with no arms and legs? We can hand them purple bandaids and yell at them to shut up.
"I know this is a trying time for our military spouses," Bush said at a Joint Armed Forces Officer Wives' luncheon at Bolling Air Force Base. "We've lost some of our nation's finest men and women in the war on terror."Bush makes freedom sound like Miracle Whip. Just spread it on and eat. Blooie!
"And the best way to honor the sacrifice of our fallen troops is to complete the mission and lay the foundation of peace by spreading freedom," he said.
Outside the White House, peace activist Cindy Sheehan — whose 24-year old son, Casey, died in Iraq last year — said she and others plan to "die symbolically" there over the next four days to protest U.S. involvement in Iraq.We are having another nation wide vigil tomorrow. I don't know if I can even get off the mountain, hurricane Wilma joined up with two other storms and has caused a lot of flooding and tonight, snow, if we get a lot of snow, I will be busy digging it.
MoveOn.org Political Action unveiled a new television ad that asks "How many more?"
Light a candle, even if it is at home.
From the Harvard Crimson:
The American empire may actually cause disorder, barbarism, and chaos rather than promote peace and order, one of the world’s leading historians, Eric J. Hobsbawm, explained last night to a packed crowd at Lowell Lecture Hall.Damn. We have military bases occupying 95+ countries as well as spies in 160+ countries and we are fighting a massive war in the Middle East so we can occupy Iraq and we are not an empire? Who are these "historians"? Ostriches? Sloths? Paramecium? Does anyone teaching in our colleges have any brains left?
While he didn’t take a final stance on that issue, Hobsbawm’s lecture on the differences between the American empire and the British empire was notable for his assertion that America is an empire destined for failure.
While many other historians do not consider America to be an empire, Hobsbawm argued yesterday that it is.
Well, as Bush does the Funky Chickenhawk dance, just remember, this show is doomed. The Flying Upthewazzoo Brothers Tightrope Act is being booed off the stage. Arrest Bush. Arrest Cheney, arrest all the GOP criminals. There are so many. We have the space to house them. Kick some pot smokers out of their cells.
Tomorrow: more dead, more speeches, and maybe some arrests at last, no? We hope.
