Bush in Asia Wrecking All Diplomatic Actions
By Elaine Meinel Supkis
Insultingly, the Japanese raised the value of the dollar vs the yen to new highs, meanwhile, Bush screams about the yuan, attacks the diplomatic efforts to end the Korean War and in general, is a bull in the China shop as he takes his Midas Touch on the road. Meanwhile, Cheney attacks Americans. More soldiers blown up in Iraq.
From Yahoo news:
President Bush took a hardline stance against North Korea on Thursday, saying the U.S. won't help the communist nation build a civilian nuclear reactor to produce electricity until it dismantles its nuclear weapons programs.Wow. No one is demonstrating against him....NOT!!! I saw on the web and I wish I kept the urls, anti Bush demonstrations! But like in America, this won't make the news. Oh, it was at Bartcop.com I saw pictures of people carrying anti Bush signs. Yes.
With the nuclear dispute with North Korea at an apparent impasse, Bush and South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun put the communist regime on notice that it would not be allowed to keep its nuclear weapons programs.
"A nuclear-armed North Korea will not be tolerated," Roh said through a translator.
The North has demanded that it be given a light-water reactor — a type less easily diverted for weapons use — in exchange for disarming. U.S. officials once rejected the idea outright and argued North Korea could not be trusted with any nuclear program, but now have left the door open as long as Pyongyang isn't given a reactor as an incentive but only as a reward after it has eliminated nuclear weapons programs.
"We'll consider the light-water reactor at the appropriate time," Bush said. "The appropriate time is after they have verifiably given up their nuclear weapons and/or programs."
So far, Bush is getting one thing he wanted from his four-country swing through Asia: no public displays of dissension from the United States' partners in the talks.
These things are hidden only if they don't completely take over like in South America where the very motivated Argentinians insured that Bush and the media couldn't ignore them. This is why people riot, you know. If you are nice, they ignore your discontent.
China carefully sheparded through all sorts of negotiations concerning North Korea. Now this is hash. I warned Richardson who went in to "fix" things that he was a fool, sticking his neck out when Bush was obviously planning to ditch the whole thing.
Roh doesn't want NK to have nukes. Well, DUH. But of course, now NK needs nukes since the USA isn't going to dance with them anyway. The Chinese don't want stray nuclear powers on their borders, they want to control this very badly. But they want to control nuclear Japan even more and the USA has pretty much handed over our Pacific military apparatus to the Japanese right wing.
This isn't clever or delicate diplomacy, this is "bellow loudly and let the Japanese swing a big stick" diplomacy. This is what happens when a powerful country falls upon its knees and ends up being owned by aliens. This is exactly what our founding fathers feared! The need for the Japanese fiscal black hole is now imperative. We can't run our government without it! All our IOUs get sucked into this artificial number crunching system, voila, all debts are meaningless, we can run them up to infinity and beyond because they don't exist.
Roh, who has pursued engagement and closer ties with the North, opposes military action if diplomacy fails and is cool to going to the U.N. Security Council for sanctions. Bush has not taken either option off the table.Roh can't get Bush to do anything contrary to what the Japanese overlords want so he just triangulates like crazy. You can bet, the Chinese will visit him soon. Putin will bend Bush to his will, and his ways are most mysterious to us since this old KGB chief knows how to play secret games much better than Woodward, even! Heh.
But, declared Roh: "We have no disagreement at all that this issue must be resolved."
The issue will continue as a dominant theme during Bush's Asian tour. On Friday, Bush confers with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the annual summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. Over the weekend, he travels to China to meet with President Hu Jintao.
And what has China been doing while Bush reasserts the Cold War in Asia? From Xinhuanews:
China and South Korea vow to further expand their all-around cooperative partnership, said a joint communique issued Thursday during a state visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao. The patient wooing of South Korea escalates. The other article noted that Roh didn't critisize Bush like last time and anti American protests were "muted" but this is probably because China requested this of all parties. Why alert the Americans to what is going on? Nearly all these diplomatic moves by China are not reported in any American press and if it were, it would be belittled since the American media, like the Chinese, exists only to propagate propaganda.
Further expanding cooperation between the two neighboring countries serves the interests of both the Chinese and South Korean peoples and is conducive to stability and prosperity in the region and the world at large, said the communique.
Both sides agree to maintain frequent exchanges of high-level visits and to build a regular communication mechanism for the parliaments of the two countries in an effort to further broaden the channels for bilateral cooperation.
China welcomes the establishment of a South Korean Consulate General in the western Chinese city of Xi'an, and South Korea, in return, welcomes China to establish a consulate in the southern South Korean city of Kwangju, said the communique.
Both sides vow to seize the opportunity of the year 2007, the 15th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral ties, to enhance the understanding between the two peoples, it said.
South Korea will continue to adhere to the one-China policy andrespect the fact that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory, said the document.
Meanwhile, both sides agree that it is necessary for the international community to strengthen the mechanism of multilateral cooperation in the face of opportunities and challenges in the 21st century. They also promise to continue cooperation on international affairs.
But the truth of the matter is that China is no longer shy about international diplomacy, nay, Hu and Wen are exercising it carefully and fully, they are both extremely busy and very well traveled, they log millions of miles going here and there to finalize treaties and sweetheart deals and trade accords. Bush goes around demanding everyone service him, the Chinese go around making deals.
Pray tell, how will our trade with Japan go now? You can bet, things will be all the worse for us. Bush couldn't even talk about the beef issue, for crying out loud. It would be like China wanting to sell chickens but giving up before going and settling for no deals at all. Hey, just popping in to kiss ass!
