TSA Allows Scissors on Planes Again

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

The TSA will allow scissors on planes again. Of course, over the years, scissors have been used to kill people, it is easy to find examples. But of course, the post 9/11 hysteria they confiscated tiny finger clippers and such which is plain silly.

From Yahoo:
Airline passengers will be allowed to carry small scissors and tools onto planes, reversing a rule that led to confiscation of many thousands of sharp objects at airports since the Sept. 11 terror attacks, a Homeland Security Department official said Wednesday.
Of course, terrorists leave the planes alone and concentrate on trains instead, then they hit the hotels then they cycle back to whatever is guarded the least. This roving change of tactics will continue so long as we stubbornly seek to colonize or control Muslim countries with oil or land we desire.

Scissors can be dangerous. From Hindustan Times:
A woman has been convicted of killing her husband by duct-taping him to an office chair, bludgeoning him in the head and stabbing him in the eye with scissors.
Even back in the 1940s movies made scenes with people stabbing each other with scissors. But then, today, they confiscate blunt little children's scissors even from small children not only at airports but in schools which is really bizarre. From the Student Advocacy Center:
In light of high profile cases of violence in schools over the past decade, Zero Tolerance policies have been developed and enacted by federal and state government. However, children can and have been expelled from school for carrying scissors onto school buses, saying inappropriate things to other children, and playing with straightened paper clips.
Google is a fine tool when remembering things! Here is another school/scissors story: From Kron4:
An eighth-grader was stabbed in the chest with a pair of scissors during an argument with his 13-year-old classmate, authorities said.

The unidentified 14-year-old victim was taken to Oakland Children's Hospital, where he remained in stable condition Friday. The scissors nicked his heart, but he was expected to recover.

The 13-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and taken to juvenile hall.
Again, discression is what secruity is all about. Looking at a situation and using the brains goes a long ways. Instituting draconian, mindless rules only worsens things which is why the extent of our budding police state irritates and frightens me.
