British Officer Says American Military Is Own Worst Enemy

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

A British officer wrote a report concerning the American invasion and occupation of Iraq. He says our hubris and self-centered insensitivity has fueled insurrection and violent resistance. Characteristically, the USA military bellows back that we are number one, we are perfect so shut up.

From the Syndey Morning Hearld:
In an article published this week in the army magazine Military Review, Brigadier Nigel Aylwin-Foster, who was deputy commander of a program to train the Iraqi military, said American officers in Iraq displayed such "cultural insensitivity" that it "arguably amounted to institutional racism" and may have spurred the growth of the insurgency.
I could have written that study before the invasion. It was painfully obvious that we were sneering and snarling that we were number one, we were going to fix everything our way and at home, everyone I met assumed gasoline would be super cheap after we invade and begin serious pumping of that Black Gold. So it was painfully obvious, we were setting ourselves up for a really nasty fall.
"Yet it seemed weighed down by bureaucracy, a stiflingly hierarchical outlook, a predisposition to offensive operations, and a sense that duty required all issues to be confronted head-on."
The hierarchy is full of wing nuts, neo conmen and downright stupid people as well as possible traitors working for another state entirely, Israel. Everything set for a disaster a la New Orleans.
In counterinsurgency campaigns, Brigadier Aylwin-Foster says, "the quick solution is often the wrong one".
I remember the Pentagon boasting they all read "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom."

This was a ridiculous assertion since Lawrence himself details how unsavory he felt, downright dirty, lying about bringing freedom and democracy to the Middle East when he knew perfectly well this was all lies. He warns future imperialists about lying to desert people about such matters, for they have long memories and can be very vicious when they turn. So, of course, we did just that.

Worse, the natural response to insurrection when we don't care if we murder people is to kill them outright while sneering, "We are number one! God bless America!" Just the "god bless" stuff guaranteed failure. After all, that turned this into a religious war which we are doomed to lose.
The army's can-do spirit also encouraged a "damaging optimism" that interfered with realistic assessments.

"I think he's an insufferable British snob," responded Colonel Kevin Benson, commander of the US Army's School of Advanced Military Studies.
And this, in a nutshell, is why our empire is doomed. Espirit d'corps is a disaster when it is sneering. As we go down to defeat yet again, and for the exact same reasons as in Vietnam, we have to do something about this barbaric chest thumping belligerence which is preventing our military from being even slightly useful in the real world!

We seem bent on imitating the Holy German Empire, not some system set up by freedom seeking democrats. Namely, our "revolution" we are selling the world is turned into revulsion thanks to our sense of entitlement and superiority.

Just to pop us on the nose for the hell of it is a temptation few people can resist.
