Kythira, Birthplace of Venus, Had a 6.9 Earthquake Today

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

First thing this morning, I see another major earthquake happened. The earth still is rearranging itself after the Great Boxing Day Quake and this process is far from done. Also, major snow storms pound Asia while America has relatively little snow, much rain this winter. The earth continues to display the many effects of global warming.

From the BBC:
A strong earthquake has struck the Greek capital, Athens, but there are no immediate reports of any casualties.

The quake, which measured 6.9 magnitude, shook buildings in the capital and was felt as far away as northern Greece and Egypt.

It struck at 1134 GMT and lasted for several seconds.

The quake's epicentre was located about 200km (125 miles) south of Athens, near the island of Kythira, the Athens Geodynamic Institute said.

On Saturday, a small earthquake measuring 4.5 magnitude, was registered off the coast of the Greek island of Cephalonia.
Today, Kythira, once called Cytherea by the Europeans, is a big tourist resort and many holiday party goers travel there in winter which is right now, to let loose and go wild. In the past including WWII, waves of military have swept this island and raped the women. It is no longer a vital port for land-hugging ships but still strategically important enough for various great powers to hang onto.

In the last 3,000 years, it has been invaded by Myceans, Dorians, Hellens, Spartans, Romans, Saracens, Byzantines, Normans, Corsairs, Turks, Venetians, French, English, French, Russians, English then the Germans, over and over. The women there had to contend with the obvious problems repeatedly.

Most natives born there via whatever conceptions, have scattered across the earth, according to data, for example, the Kythirean community in Australia has 60,000 members yet their homeland has only several thousand left, the villages are very small.

In ancient Greek mythology, Poseidon was the one who caused earthquakes and tsunami. Black horses were sacrified to him for he is the humanization of the complex elder god, the Flying Horse. To steal this magic horse's powers, the Greek religionists had Poseidon impregnate Medusa whose star glows red next to the Great Square of Pegasus in the sky, and therefore, became the father of the original Storm/Violent Seas God, Zu, aka, Pegasus.

Zu's lightning bolts were stolen by Zeus and it is no surprize to me to see the similarity in the names. Anyway, the horse connection seems odd with a sea god that lives in the ocean but note that this latest earthquake is centered in the sea and I wonder if it caused a tsunami of sorts. There is one Greek story of a fine youth driving his horses along the sea and being swept away, blamed in Poseidon, of course, being a lusty and vindictive god.

Here is a thumbnail of Poseidon's rapine:
Poseidon was similar to his brother Zeus in exerting his power on women and in objectifying masculinity. He had many love affairs and fathered numerous children. Poseidon once married a Nereid, Amphitrite, and produced Triton who was half-human and half-fish. He also impregnated the Gorgon Medusa to conceive Chrysaor and Pegasus, the flying horse. The rape of Aethra by Poseidon resulted in the birth of Theseus; and he turned Caeneus into a man, at her request, after raping her. Another rape involved Amymone when she tried to escape from a satyr and Poseidon saved her. Other offspring of Poseidon include: Eumolpus, the Giant Sinis, Polyphemus, Orion, King Amycus, Proteus, Agenor and Belus from Europa, Pelias, and the King of Egypt, Busiris.

One of the most notorious love affairs of Poseidon involves his sister, Demeter. Poseidon pursued Demeter and to avoid him she turned herself into a mare. In his lust for her, Poseidon transformed himself into a stallion and captured her. Their procreation resulted in a horse, Arion. Poseidon is Greek for "Husband" (possibly of wheat), and therefore it is thought that he and Demeter (goddess of wheat) are a good match because they reign as the god and goddess of fertility.
Note that good old Poseidon can't really do much unless he allows his Zuvian Pegasian nature out into the open! Hardly a tridon wielding human figure!

All us female readers can be amused that Poseidon means "husband." No wonder we call them "studs". Heh.

The idea that Venus was born on this island doesn't really surprize me at this point. All ports of all tend to be full of whorehouses and such things. But Venus wasn't married to Poseidon, she, like him, gadded about, was married to the Volcano god but note, volcanoes and eathquakes go hand in glove.

Today, the volcanoes are waking up all over the planet. They are coughing and shaking their thick manes, getting ready for some action. One can sense this at work. From Yahoo:
Augustine Volcano continued to show increased unrest this week with small steam explosions and small ash bursts coming from the summit.

Michelle Coombs, a research geologist for the Alaska Volcano Observatory in Anchorage, said she got a firsthand look at the volcano this week. It looked much like it has in previous flights, except that there was less snow on the summit, perhaps due to increased activity at the top, she said.
If any of the bigger volcanoes blows, this will increase snowfall and drop world temps for a year or two. This won't stop global warming but will fool people into thinking it won't be happening.

The many odd side effects of global warming, namely the flood/drought cycles are strengthening. Record snows in Japan, for example. 70 people dead from collapsing buildings or falling off of roofs as they desperately try to dig out. Eight FEET of snow in Hokkaido! Across Asia, blizzards threaten the lives of many especially in Mongolian lands. The military is rescuing herds wallowing in deep snow, they have spread manure on the ground at the staging areas and shepherds try desperately to save their valuable cashmere sheep.

The snow isn't just deep, it is very wet and heavy. I can tell from the photos, having to deal with snow all the time. Very cold air usually brings hard crystaline flakes that are very light and easy to shovel but what is happening is the snow is very warm, relatively speaking, when it falls and so it is very wet and the flakes are big and bunchy and the half-rain turns the whole mess into blocks of heavy ice, causing roofs to collapse unless they are very strong. Alpine houses are built for such snows which is why the pitch goes steeper and steeper the deeper into the Alps one goes.

My roof has a pretty strong pitch to it and I still go out when we have heavy snows to pull down the ice and snow on the eaves so there is no ice damming.

But from what I see today in Asia, the snow is so deep, pulling it down becomes dangerous, like asking for an avalanche! Earlier this year, I wrote about Siberian swans suddenly coming to England. The caretakers of the swans said this would mean a very nasty winter in Siberia and lo and behold, it happens! How did those swans know this? Seriously.

The fact that birds and detect and analyse data to this extent is one of the great wonders of nature. We know they evolved under the same stresses that caused humans to evolve big brains (and bigger egos!) but how come they can figure out this stuff while we can't do it as directly? Namely, we can only do it by watching the swans who have a more direct link to the incoming data!

In other words, dumb animals are darn smart.

I will post more about the quake here as information comes in.
